Synopsis
by E. Rodriguez
In new gaming news, Nintendo has been teasing the release of the new Nintendo Switch 2, a predecessor to the first. It has been gaining a lot of attention across the internet, some good, some bad. The people are waiting in suspense for the new console which is proposed to be in Nintendo’s words “the next evolution of the Nintendo Switch system.”
The Bad
Nintendo switches were seen by some people as just a gimmick for Nintendo to get money. When the first one came out people were excited, such a powerful gaming system that was designed to be used on the go was revolutionary at the time. But after people bought it and used it in day-to-day life many flaws were found. For one the console was prone to overheating when not decked, so the gaming sessions on games like Zelda and Mario kart would have to end up on the tv or monitor. Even I faced these problems when getting mine for Christmas 2017, after a few months of playing the console needed to be decked increasingly. Many believe this will be present in the new ones too. Another problem is the price of the proposed games. Leakers have said many base games would be set at $70-90, very different from the prices of games for the first one being placed around $50-60. The price of the actual console is another hot topic as the cost will be around $499.99, 67% higher than the first one being at $299.99.
The Good
The first Nintendo Switch was seen as a revolution in console gaming. The second one is expected to break the limits of its predecessor. With its trailer being released on the 16th of January 2025, the anticipation has been high, the new streamlined professional look has been taken by fans as what is to come. The trailer has shown it to be bigger with new features such as a mic with a button to mute and unmute. A 7.9-inch screen which is complimented by a high-definition LCD display featuring support for HDR, VRR, and up to 120 fps in compatible games. The console is also sporting a new adjustable stand, with two USB-C ports, one up top and bottom. It also includes an AC adapter to play in tabletop mode while the system charges. The controllers also sport mouse sensors turning a tabletop or any other flat surface into a mouse pad. Theres many more features as well such as higher performance with powerful processing and immersive graphics, crisp sound audio quality and 3D spatial sound, and an internal storage 256 GB capacity with faster speeds.
Upon Further Reflection
As excitement builds around the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s clear that expectations are high. While concerns about pricing and past hardware issues linger, the new features and improvements show that Nintendo is aiming to deliver a significantly upgraded experience. Whether it lives up to the hype or not, the Switch 2 stands for a bold step forward in the evolution of portable console gaming, and fans around the world are eager to see how it performs upon release.
